Digital Prison
An interactive narrative website prototype that guides users through the societal, personal, and professional impacts of AI and digitalization. Combining a futuristic visual style with 3D models, interactions, and data illustrations, the experience turns complex topics into an engaging, story-based journey where users explore and reflect through interactive questions.

PROJECT BRIEF: DESIGNING AN INTERACTIVE DIGITAL NARRATIVE
Digital Prison was developed as part of my Communication and Multimedia Design studies at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam. The briefing challenged us to create an interactive digital narrative explainer around a contemporary topic. I chose to design a visual journey based on an article exploring how digitalization and the rapid evolution of AI will impact our daily lives — from our personal relationships to our professional environments.
The starting point was understanding the article’s core ideas and translating them into a form that users could not just read, but actively experience. I researched current debates around AI and digitalization, as well as examples of interactive storytelling, to determine how to merge information with engagement. I explored visual styles that could communicate both the excitement and the potential constraints of a hyper-digital future, eventually settling on a futuristic, modern look that felt immersive and thought-provoking.
DESIGN AND USER EXPERIENCE
The result was a fully prototyped website that functions as an interactive story. Users move through different sections, answering questions and making small choices that shape the narrative flow. This transforms the experience from a passive read into a personal exploration of the topic.
I experimented with design layouts that balance narrative text with visual elements such as 3D models, data visualizations, and thematic imagery. Compositions were structured so that information is always supported by a visual cue, keeping the journey intuitive and engaging.
Visual Identity and Interactivity
The design features a consistent, futuristic color palette with neon accents that hint at both innovation and artificiality. 3D models are integrated directly into the layout, adding depth and making abstract ideas more tangible. Micro-interactions, such as hover effects, animated transitions, and reactive buttons, were added to keep the user engaged and guide them smoothly through the story.
The visual system balances minimalism with complexity: clean typography for readability, layered with futuristic interface elements to create an immersive digital environment.
Summary :
Digital Prison allowed me to combine narrative design, visual storytelling, and interactive prototyping into a single cohesive experience. The project not only explained the impacts of AI and digitalization, but also made users reflect on their own place in a fast-changing world. It was a challenge in harmonizing information design, technology, and atmosphere — resulting in a journey that is as visually captivating as it is thought-provoking.
