Webcirkels Webshop

Pencirkels is a webshop focused on selling refurbished pens — old but perfectly usable pens that have been cleaned, refilled, and brought back into circulation. The idea is simple yet powerful: encourage reuse and maintain quality, with attention to both sustainability and design.

BRINGING CHARACTER TO SUSTAINABILITY

This project, created from a brief during my Communication and Multimedia Design studies at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, involved not only designing a webshop but also developing a visual identity that radiates warmth and creativity.

Instead of a standard webshop layout, I chose a clean, modern style with abstract shapes and compositions. Think soft orange and vellum tones that evoke creativity and optimism, as if the pens are truly being given new life. The name Pencirkels refers not only to the rounded shapes present in much of the design but also to the circular nature of the product itself.

UI AND UX ELEMENTS I IMPLEMENTED:

Clear product pages with plenty of white space and playful typography.

  • A “Refill Your Pen” page where users can order refills and see which types are compatible.

  • A filter and search function using icons instead of standard dropdowns, creating a more visual browsing experience (by color, type of pen, material).

  • Subtle micro-interactions, such as hover effects and animations when adding to the cart, making the experience more intuitive.

  • A consistent visual hierarchy, where the use of color and typography guides the user smoothly through the process.

Navigation is simple and mobile-friendly, with a sticky menu and a minimal cart pop-up. Everything is designed for accessibility, calmness, and trust, without feeling distant.

Summary :

Pencirkels blends sustainability with thoughtful design, transforming something functional into a product with personality. By pairing a warm, distinctive visual style with intuitive user flows, the webshop encourages both reuse and emotional connection, making the act of buying refurbished feel as exciting as buying new.
